Mordançage is a process that alters a finished black and white
silver gelatin print. In this one-day workshop, we will experiment with the
techniques of “lifting emulsion” and veiling that were perfected by Jean-Pierre
Sudre’s chemical ratios. Mordançage creates a unique melting effect, and each
print is a one-of-a-kind piece. It inspires visual similarities to other
mediums such as painting and relief sculpture, blurring the line between photography

Some papers do not react well to this process. Glossy papers recommended for best results. Arista (or maybe Adox) are not suggested as these papers have mixed results

Optional Add-on Day: Due to the end of our daily operation hours starting April 30th, we will offer an optional add-on day for printing black and white images to prep for the Mordancage class in our group darkroom on Jul 29th, from 9:30AM - 1:30PM only. There will be no instruction on this day, and it is entirely optional
